A large fairway bunker awaits any shorter drive making Par a lot harder to achieve.
Pro tip: Favour the right-hand side of the fairway to give you an easier approach shot.
This hole has a three-tiered green, guarded by bunkers short left, and right, that will make Par a challenge. However, a good shot to the middle of the green will give you the best chance of Par.
Pro tip: Beware the long hitter, the way back is not fun.
A challenging Par 4 with a dog-leg right. Although no hazards accuracy is a must on this tight fairway.
Favour the left-hand side of the fairway, for the easier approach shot to this green, which is longer than it is wide, defended by bunkers left and right. If you find them Par is a real challenge.
Pro-tip: Staying out of the trees on the right is a must.
A short driveable Par 4 for the stout of heart however, a positional lay-up shot from the tee will more likely lead to Par.
Pro-tip: A mid iron layup level with bunkers to your right, is the best place to approach the green.
The first of 3 Par 5’s, with penalty areas on the left trees on the right this tee shot can be intimidating and the water just in front.
A solid tee shot which finds the fairway will set you up well for par. This Par 5 has a small green with trouble on 3 of the 4 sides.
Pro-tip: Par is a good score on this hole, don’t be too aggressive the green in regulation will yield more birdies.
The second hole of Shrivenham’s answer to Amen corner, this Par 4 is the hardest on the course. A long Par 4 with a lateral water hazard towards the green and high established trees standing guard.
Pro-tip: It is easier to approach the green from the top of the hill rather than on the sloping fairway below. If you escape with Par you’ve done well – move on !
Don’t be fooled by the yardage here, one of the most intimidating tee shots at Shrivenham Park awaits you.
A narrow fairway lined with high trees will knock your ball off course, out of bounds and water on your right, will catch the stray ball.
Make your choice; lay up before the water or take it on for an unhindered shot into the green.
Pro-tip: This hole is a scorecard maker or breaker.
A large imposing tree left of the tee-block makes this tee shot difficult. The fairway can even kick your ball to the conifers on the right so favour the left.
Although no hazards on this hole to speak of, your second shot is tricky with a bottleneck of trees. Even low handicappers are happy with a bogey here.
Pro-tip: Consider not using driver to avoid conifers, accepting a longer second shot is a wise choice.
The longest of the 6 Par 3s at Shrivenham, a slight uphill 200-yard par 3. The green is a long narrow target with bunkers short left and right, and greenside left and right.
Only a long and true tee-shot is rewarded with Par.
Pro-tip: The short right hand sand trap is a destroyer of cards, avoid at all costs.
A short Par 3 on the way to the halfway house. Although at stroke index 18 it’s no guaranteed Par.
With a slight incline this hole plays longer than its yardage, misjudging the pin position can leave your ball in 3 putt territory!
The green is guarded with bunkers front, left and back.
Pro-tip: The pin position of this hole can be seen clearly when leaving the 9th green. Forget to look at your peril.
Fully refreshed from your stop at the halfway house, this interesting Par 3 has out of bounds left. Trees to your right and another long narrow green presents a small target. Expect to chip or a have a long putt.
Pro-tip: Short is the professional miss.
This is a driveable Par 4 for the bigger hitters, but a long-iron and a full shot in is a more sensible option for the casual golfer. This green that slopes front to back, is not the most receptive.
Pro-tip: With encroaching overhead branches the centre of the fairway is the place to be.
The second of our Par 5s at stroke index 2 it’s no gimme Par.
Longer hitters can reach in 2 if they can get to the corner of this dog-leg right hole, however most golfers will be happy to reach the green in 3.
With out of bounds left and right, accuracy is a must.This green slopes from right to left and if the greenskeepers are feeling mean, it will be high and right!
Pro-tip: The second shot is the key here.
Is another drivable Par 4 going by its yardage, but the green is well defended by tall trees and no easy target. Out of bounds left and a bunker perfectly placed to catch a misguided lay-up in the centre of the fairway makes this a challenging hole.
Pro-tip: This green has some subtle contours, take steady aim to ensure a 2 putt.
A funny little Par 3 that would seem easy on paper, your fate will be decided on the tee here. This hole rarely plays its yardage and never plays the same twice.
Pro-tip: Pay close attention to wind and flag position. Don’t be scared to club up.
A medium length Par 4 with a fiddly tee-shot with trees right and left. Any shot that finds the fairway has done well.
The green is guarded by a bunker right and an unforgiving high-sided links style bunker short left.
Pro-tip: The tee block is sheltered from the wind by the trees on the right. For true information pay attention to the flags on the practice area on the right when you walk from the 15th green.
The last of the Par 5s and a rare dog-leg left on Shrivenham Park’s course. With two discreet bunkers which lie in wait for an overzealous tee shot. Too short and you will struggle with the corner.
Longer hitters may take on the corner, but you will need to get the ball up quick. An imposing set of trees on your left by a fairway bunker make this green hard to reach in 2. The green has bunkers right and back, that can rob you of Par.
Pro-tip: If you can draw a driving iron from the tee, it will set you up for a birdie.
Par 3 closer with out of bounds left, a slight incline increases the yardage slightly. Avoid the Captains bunker on the right.
Pro-tip: This green runs subtly back to front so ...GO FOR THE PIN!
